You didn't list E55 AMG, 476hp, 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, Posrche and the like will be in the rear mirror. I don't have the money for one but I gathered some info about it herein. 2005-2006 is the best year range. The price is in your range or just a little more. Get it with less than 2 previous owners then you're set for years of enjoyment. More than 3 previous owners, the car was raped.

Not at all. Mine is 100% weatherproof even in very heavy rain and New England blizzards. It's like two cars in one: once you put the hard-top on, you can treat it as a coupe.

I love the 560SL: they're dead-nuts reliable with "they don't make 'em like this anymore" levels of build quality. You get classic car looks/style with the driving experience and reliability of a modern car. It really is an ideal daily driver.

Prices are still very depressed. Occasionally an exceptionally clean example will pop up, but even those don't fetch more than $10-12K in today's market. For $15K you should be able to find a car that's just about perfect.

Whatever you decide, I'd advise going the CPO (certified pre-owned) route. You should be able to find an E-Class, 4 years old with close to 50,000 miles near your budgeted amount. The cost will depend on the year but 2007 and later (facelift) would be preferable but a nice example will stretch you to $25,000 or more. Plus a 2007, if you pay to max out the CPO eligible period, will carry your warranty until 2014.

A case in point is my car. I paid $24,500 for a 5 year/53,000 E320 that originally sold for close to $60,000 when new. I extended the warranty to 7/100,000 and MB paid for a lot of expensive repairs. Nothing that stranded me, but I think I got my money's worth.

I will look into them but they are definitely pushing my price range.

For me, I will put the hard top on a probably never take it off...too bad they did not make an SLC version.

I am not sure what is a better route. A CPO car or an older car that costs about the same. The older cars tend to not drop in value as quickly and I wonder if the advantage of the resale makes up for the cost of keeping an old car running.

I would love an e320 cdi or an e55 but the depreciation would be killer over a 5 year period.
