Electrically Folding Side Door Mirrors
There have been some posts on electrically folding side door mirrors regarding squeeks and minor issues on the forum, however at this time no posts have explained the operation of the mirrors. By "electrically folding side door mirrors" I mean mirrors that fold in on their own at the touch of a button or automatically once the car is locked, not just electrically adjustable for mirror angle.
MB has pretty much made the folding mirrors standard on many of their ranges now, especially many post-2006 built C, C Coupe, CLK and CLC Classes. A great feature and an item of convenience. It also looks very cool.
If there are any engineers/mechanics out there that know the mechanics of the folding mirror please post a short description.
Some questions coming to mind are:
Can electrically folding mirrors be manually folded?
Is there protection if the mirrors are inadvertently knocked or nudged (i.e. by people, trolleys, bicycle riders etc)?
Is the mirror a routine maintenance subject? (i.e. is it lubricated etc.)
Can you retrofit electrically folding mirrors to older cars?
Many thanks and any posted information is greatly appreciated,
