o2 cl 500 mbz check engine light on

My check engine light just came on my 02 cl 500 mbz. My dash board reads service A exceeds by 1,000 miles, I was actually on my way to the car dealership, when the check engine light came on but it was close for the day. I would like to know if the check engine light is indicating a major problem or is it just informing me of the service A which needs to be done immediately . What could possibly be wrong my car besides the service A? Anything info would help, I will greatly appreciate it.

Go to advance auto and pull the cel code.
