Well... Mercedes does stay away from RR image. I did use 2 of MB wagons mainly for my remodeling business. They had their share of garbage hauling as well as hauling my tools and materials.
For the older W123 I just put few rags in the cargo area, while for W210 I fabricated plywood pans that hold all the dirt before it went on BEIGE carpet. This is the wagon at the end of its carrier as a work-car. Living in California I learn to love white for practicality.

I agree with the incessant exterior silver/elephant gray interior comment. However, the butterscotch exteriors of the late's 70's and early 80's were worthy of dramamine IV's. (Car dealers do have special names for two colors: Resale Red and Hang-Around Brown.)

Ugliest color I have seen is a Teal shade that someone here I knew had on a W126. I don't know what MB called it.

The worst color is black. Dust can be easily seen on black so you got to wash the car every few days. And when black colored cars get old, the horrible swirls show.

Black looks really nice on some cars though.

Although I will never buy one since it is such a pain to clean and keep scratch free.

Well, I ended with black car even I fully realize the most practical is white one. The trick to keep it looking good is to live in California and have good water.
Years ago I had water softener and I could wash the car without drying for perfect shine. When the softener broke down, I figured out our city water is good enough to go without a new softener. I have truck washing brush on extended pole, so I can wash the car in 4 minutes and than drive it to dry. Minimal water spots can be wiped clean at the first stop.

My Plymouth Acclaim is black and looked very good when I bought it but as others have said they are a pain to keep that way. But there is just something about a black Mercedes that gets my attention.
