Wont start after oil change - Timing Chain?

Car wont start after oil change. Has spark & fuel, i believe the timing chain has jumped a tooth or two. Two cylinders are 0 compression, does this mean there could be valve damage aswell or can it all relate to the timing? Is it an expensive fix to have the timing chain adjusted?

Timing chain

is tensioned by an idler sprocket positioned by a hydraulic piston. That hydraulic assembly is supposed to fill with engine oil and retain pressure for a long period of time, theoretically forever but in practice several weeks anyway.

One of the failure modes is an inability to rertain pressure thus allowing slack in the chain until pressure is restored. Worst case for you is that your conjecture is correct and the chain has skipped links because of the slack and your valves have collided with your pistons..

Lack of compression in some cylinders is not a good sign. And to answer your last question, yes, the worst case situation is very expensive to repair. Basically a rebuild of the top end of the engine.

I would suggest you cease attempts to start the engine until you assess potential damage. Pull your valve cover off and have a look. You could get lucky.
