Two questions about restoring 1972 350 SL

I just acquired a 1972 350 SL. Plan to use it as a weekend car. It's in fair condition but needs some work as expected.

Question 1. Vin number ends in 000053 and was told this means it was the 53rd car made. Is that accurate information and if so does that make it more collectable?

Question 2. The car needs some work. Is this a car that would have more value if restored to original or customized, or does it make any difference?

Thanks for your opinions.

Jeffray, come on down to the BW107 board. Get ready to post a few pics, the guys are going to be VERY interested in the 53rd 107 built.

Check out the "This Damn Old Car" and "Encyclopaedia Germanica" threads for a treasure trove of information about the cars and the car guys that love them.
