1998 SLK230 A & B Maintenance Question

Where can I find out what is included in the A & B Services ? I found one link but it was a dead end.

Surely those have been discussed in the proper section of the roadster forums. Try looking there and don't forget to check the stickys.

If you're going to DIY, they're useful.

Otherwise, if you are taking it in, then have the shop give it to you. Some include other things with it, and it's useful to know what those are.

On a side note, where is Vail, AZ? I'm from Phoenix originally and have been all over the state, but the only Vail I've been to was in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

It's in the service manual that came as part of the owners manual packet. You can still get them from MBUSA. If you don't have an owners manual, you really need to have one of those too, also still available. You might get lucky and be able to get the entire packet on e-bay.

The A Service includes the following:

Reset maintenance service indicator in instrument cluster
Engine oil and filter change with synthetic oil and factory Fleece oil filter
Hood: Inspect catch, safety catch, and hinges on engine hood for proper operation and
lubricate if necessary
Inspect condition of poly v-belt for cracks, breaks, or excessive play
Clean water deflector to ensure proper drainage
Inspect coolant level and test coolant for proper composition
Check thickness of brake pads and rotors; front and rear
Correct tire inflation pressure and measure tread depth
Inspect tires for any abnormal wear or damage
Correct inflation pressure in spare tire (if applicable)
Inspect power steering system fluid level and check for leaks
Inspect wiper blades condition
Verify proper operation of horn and all interior and exterior lighting functions
Adjust headlamp settings if necessary
Test condition of main battery & auxiliary battery (if applicable) using "Midtronics MCE 717" tester
Check and correct fluid level of battery (if applicable)
Check windshield washer and headlamp cleaning system
Activate tire pressure monitoring if needed
Visually check brake system components, lines, hoses, and calipers

What is a B Service?The B Service is the larger service. It includes everything in the A Service and the following:

Remove and inspect combination or dust filter and replace if needed
Check underbody for leakage from major components. Inspect for chafe marks, line routing,
damaged components.
Visual inspection condition of front axle, ball joints, and rubber boots
Visual inspection of driveshaft flexible discs
Visual inspect condition of mechanical steering components and rubber boots
Function test parking brake
Check seat belts and buckles for signs of external damage and proper function
Clean and lubricate tilt/sliding roof mechanism
Clean and lubricate panoramic roof mechanism
Check bodywork for paintwork damage
Check chassis and load-bearing body components for damage and corrosion
