To Kill or not to Kill Algae

Even though I find it hard to believe, I didn't know algae could grow and live in my fuel system. I have begun using a (Lucas) brand algae killer. I was told to be prepared for clogged fuel filters and to watch out for that as it develops.

Do I need to do this really? Are there performance ramifications if I don't?

You did not update your profile as requested and now you ask a tech question and no one knows which car you are talking about. How do you expect to get replies??

What Eric said.
I assume you are talking about diesel fuel. I heard stories about them growing in RV tanks parked for 6 months, but living in California I never found any trace of water in diesel and once I restarted a motorhome parked under the tree for 7 years. Used all 120 gallons of diesel in it to the last drop with no problem.

As stated above, you should fill out your year/ model and location in your profile. We can't really give answers without knowing what model it is.
