Angry Never trust a thermostat

After fitting a new thermostat to my W124 1991 300E I experienced problems with overheating which at first I thought was airlocks in the system, after I changed the rad and replaced the viscous coupling and exp. tank cap the problems still existed, after a lot of head scratching I removed the `new` thermostat and tested at home, now it states that it should start to open at around 80c and be fully open at100c, not the case though even submersed in boiling water direct from the kettle there was still no movement, even after ten minutes, I took it back and got a replacement which again I tested at home only to find the same results. back to the store with it and the staff tested it also with the same results it is now on its way back to Brazil for further test by the company who make it M.E. Thomson of Brazil, Stick with German units as this could of caused serious damage to the engine, I suppose other will scratching their heads as well as a result of this faulty batch..

Good tip. We should always test a thermostat at home before installing it. It is simple enough to test.

Mi experience with Brazilian parts is totally negative, be it Bosch plugs or no name thermostats. The difference between these parts and European or US made components is spent many fold in medicine for headaches.

Sorry about your experience, change supplier.

A car would show appreciation for preventive maintenance by never leaving his owner stranded.

Defensive Driving is never having to say you're sorry: a true love story between man and machine.

Exactly the reason to stay OEM.

Lucky it didn't cause any permanent damage!
