Is my transmission shot?
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but been reading it a lot, it's great, tons of knowledge. I'm also a newbie MB owner as I bought my first 91' 190E 2.6
automatic last summer and that has treated me well. Until this morning.....
As I'm leasurely driving to work, coming to a red light, I take my foot of the gas, and as I start breaking the car shuts down completely. I manage to roll it off to the side and stop. Tryed a few cranks, nothing, wait, It lives again! But now it doesn't shift gears. Story short, I take very slowly to the shop and they can't figure it and told me the car is in Limp mode and they can't do it.
Some history, the car is 190k miles, very good shape overall, no rust, always starts right away, even well below frezing and even now after this. The reverse has always had a 1 or 2 sec delay before going in, but now it doesn't delay,it's perfect. weird....I did feel it slugish in the morning when it's cold a few days but no issue, and a sometimes kinda gentle tump engaging the 4 gear, it seems it's to soon for it as i'm going slow. It never slipped and always run smoth when warm.
Have been on top of things since I got it, and last month I changed the fuel filter as the car lacked power and one day it had some erratic iddeling. It fixed it. Could it be related?
How should I go about this to find the problem?
