Registration of 14 digit VIN Vehicle?

I just purchased a 1984 G Class 230GE and noticed that it has only a 14 digit VIN instead of the standard 17 digits in the USA. It's registered in Florida now but I'm going to register it in my state of South Carolina. Is the VIN going to be a problem? Ideas to get around this? Hope I haven't purchased an illegal gray market vehicle. Thank you!

Having gone through this with my gray market 2.3-16, some states require that you have a visual inspection done of the VIN plates before they can over ride their computer system's default for VIN entry. Insurance companies do the same double take when they try to enter the VIN as well.

Yep, just got back from the insurance company. They were totally freaked out. "The system won't accept this vin. Where did you get this car???" Felt like I had just committed a crime! They tried adding WDB to the front end but then their automated system totally misidentified the vehicle and still didn't like the vin. Finally they just wrote something like an open policy with notes about the actual vehicle. Makes me nervous. Might switch to Haggerty next week. Now I still have to deal with the South Carolina DMV. They are notorious for rejecting paperwork just depending on the mood of the clerk. Not looking forward to that.
