extended warranty research

I’d agree that a factory extended warranty by mb would be the way to go, but for someone (read me) that just bought a car with too many miles and out of factory warranty, a 3rd party is the only option. Bought a used mb SL 500 for the wife and looking at the Mercedes forums the repair costs really scare me (if you’re scared, say you’re scared).
Car has too many miles to extend factory warranty so I’m looking at third party.
Looked at easycare, who may be better, but is much higher or ones backed by mercury insurance (not the ford company). Local dealer said both were good. also can get one through my credit union - AutoCare Extended Warranties, member's choice by cuna mutual group.
hate to spend the money because these things are really expensive and i've read stories where it's easy for some companies to deny claims (wear and tear, not covered in the fine print, etc.).
Anybody want to share their knowledge or recommandations?
Here's the excel file I created to track my qoutes, shows contacts, type, length, total cost, cost per month and deductable. btw I really liked Damien Trombetta. he was recommended by mercury who does not sell to my state. he was cheaper than poliseek which is where the mercury site sent me.

since my first research, i have been talking to Tim Sorrick tsorrick@modestoeuropean.com at Modesto European.
he has qouted me some pretty prices and carries EasyCare. his qoute:" Easycare quoted you $5024 for StatedCare $500
deductible. After my discount, you would have a price of $4872 for TotalCare
coverage, which is much better quality coverage!
My dealership has added a new provider, National
Warranty. Before 80,000 miles, the car qualifies for
their "Premium Plus" coverage, which is exclusionary - the best they offer.
For a 3 year/36,000 mile plan with only $100 deductible, after my discount,
your price is $3,788.

you can reach Tim Sorrick at:

Modesto European
3900 McHenry Ave
Modesto, CA 95356
209-550-8225 Direct Line
209-575-7551 Fax
they have a toll free number if you google them.
hope this helps.

my mechanic (works at the local dealership and doing work at home) said most everything expensive has been replaced recently (new
struts at 71,000 and the car has been very well maintained) and was thinking i would not spend as much as the extended warranty would cost if something did go wrong and is advising against it right now.
not sure if i want to spend $3,788 for the piece of mind or not. i know repairs could pass the $4k mark in a heartbeat, just not sure what to do.

Lots of info and recommendations one way or the other in the archives. There are some of us (me) who never have and never will buy an extended warranty at any price. Others buy them to sleep better at night knowing that they likely pi**ed away the money. Others have had them pay off for them.

Just for kicks get a quote from Fidelity Warranty Services. My dealer was selling them and gave me a nice discount.

Re: extended warranty question

I purchased a MB Extended warranty from Tim Sorrick, recently and I highly recommend him. In my opinion he's very knowledgeable, honest and his prices are reasonable. I had an excellent experience dealing with him. Take this from someone who does tons of research and asks a million questions before making a purchase.

I second RBLE350's comment about Tim Sorrick. Tim is the Finance Manager at Modesto MB European (209) 522-8100, in CA. You'll have an answer pretty quick.

In Scottsdale, AZ - we have several dealerships around us, but Tim in Modesto, CA has always beat their pricing and usually by a lot of money.

I have referred close friends and would highly recommend him. Integrity is high, he's candid, and really a sharp guy. He'll take your VIN, research it's history with Mercedes and give you a better price than you will get from your dealer. The great thing about having a factory warranty on your car is, you always have the security of a new car no matter where you travel.
