Moving up to an AMG?

Hey guys,

Just a year ago I purchased my first Mercedes, and loved it. The drive, and handling was perfect, as well as the styling. But I want more power than my 3.2L 215 HP CLK320. I saw an 05 C55 AMG for sale at my local Audi dealer where I originally bought my car selling for 17k with 74k miles. I was wondering how much more would the C55 cost to maintain than my regular CLK320, and if it'd be worth trading my car for it. My car currently has 30,600 miles on it, dealer maintained, with nav, suncreen, sport package, heated front seats, xenons.

I'm going tomorrow to check it out. But what do you guys think so far? I would like to keep the car for a while.

I noticed that used AMG often changed hands for some reason. Non-AMG model of the same year may be 1-owner car but AMG model would have had 2, 3, or even 4 owners.
Buy the C55 but keep the CLK as spare. If problem with the C55 arises, sell.

Well there was only one owner who kept the car since 06 (when he bought it new). I wish I could keep the CLK but sadly I can't

I mean my CLK has been a very reliable car so far *knock on wood*, it's gonna be hard for me to sell her. If I sell her and this C55 turns out to be crap, I wouldn't be too happy.

AMG are for people who can take lot of shaking. Usually young.
We got rid of our ML55 mainly because of harsh ride.
If you are lucky, cost of driving AMG version will not be much higher than regular model. I mean it might use more gas, although I didn't notice big difference between ML320 and ML55, but common part prices are not that much different.
Than if things start going bad....

OH - almost forgot.
With AMG you have the obligation to polish muffler and differential.
Ask JOE55.

You're going to be buying gas and tires a bit more often that before . . .

You might ask those questions in AMG sections.
Some AMG have more sophisticated air filters, but to my knowledge almost all MB engines take +- 8 liters of motor oil and have the same intervals.
If you DIY you should not notice big difference, but AMG pulling into the shop makes mechanics smiling wide if you know what I mean.
Than speeding tickets might make big dent in the budget.

Insurance will probably kill me since I'm young, dam it

and yea the shops will probably smile. I guess I can take the AMG off my list until I'm way older.

but I did check it out, the car looked very clean, hankook tires, paints in good condition, one foglight is like yellow, one is clear. Not sure if it has xenons. There's a little scoff on the front (bothers me).
