Hi all! I'm a long time Amercan muscle car fanatic and I just sold my prized 1995 Lingenfelter 383 Formula after 15 years of racing and wrenching on it. It ran 11.20s at 121ish in naturally aspirated pump gas form and was a blast to drive. For the last 25 years I've been Drag racing American stuff like Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, etc, but a few years ago I took a ride in my friend's 2006 AMG E55. Holy crap! What a nice ride! Now with an empty bay in my garage I'm looking to break into the Benz market. At 41 I guess I'm starting to become more refined, lol!
So here I am an old school drag racer finding himself a newbie again in a world I don't know too much about. But hey, a V8 is a V8, right?! I'm looking to find a nice AMG E55 and turn it into a mid 11 second ride, hopefully without sacrificing ride quality, etc. From the looks of things the economy has zapped the values out of these things, as well as my Formula, so maybe I can find a nice E for a good price and get to work.
What years should I look at and what are the best performance upgrades for the money and durability? My friend's E went 12.30s at 116 stock on the stock tires...Seems to me that DRs would knock a few tenths off and just about drop it into the 11s as is..Thanks in advance everyone. Hope to chat it up with you all soon!
