Hi everyone, I am Jason and have just bought a C320 2001 67000 miles for £3500. I change job later this month and thus lose my company Renault Laguna which has not been a bad car all considered, My new job is only abt a 15 mile round trip so I looked at big German motors that seemed great value for money compared to smaller cars.

After matching the C320 to my requirements (4 DOOR WITH A BOOT THAT I CAN FIT MY GOLF BAG IN BUT NOT HUGE!) I then looked at abt 100 models for sale on various websites for a budget of abt £5000.

My C320 was for sale at a dealer in Cleeve Hill Cheltenham for £3999 and I took a drive over Christmas to view without calling ahead, on arrival the car had abt 6 inch of snow on top and had been scratched on the bonnet whilst on their forecourt! It also had a flat battery and did not start and looked quite sorry for itself.

I agreed with the dealer to call back once he had time to prepare as he advised the car had stood for 2 months with no interest. I continued to look elsewhere but there was something abt this car that I loved. I saw a 2003 model with 120000 miles in cracking condition for £5500 but I fell for my car because it needed a little TLC and still had great potential.

The dealer called back a few days later advising he had changed the battery, fuel pump and fuel relay due to car still not starting after a charge. He also reset some immobilisor that had been upset by the battery.

I drove the car and was immediately hooked and after a thorough inspection managed to deal at £3500 due to the scratch and general grubby condition of the paintwork/lack of interest. He also agreed to store until I lost my Laguna later this month.

I noticed a German invoice for 75000 DMK in the paperwork from a garage in Munich so looks like this was an import to the UK, Theres a VAT receipt too.

Whilst I am very excited abt getting my 1st Mercedes I am worried about potential service/maintenance cost, I am toying with the idea of taking out a service schedule with my local dealer but am quite a capable mechanic who services my partners MR2 Syder and Daughters VW Polo regularly by following relevant service checklists and basic common sense.

Main Dealers frighten me to death in my area and I have no faith at all in their ability to care for my car better than me!

I have read the stories abt this model but am not worried as I gave the car a dam good checkover/under! It has new discs/pads front and rear and excellent tyres with a full Merc Dealer history.

So I have a few jobs to be getting on with: Deep 8 inch scrath on bonnet (Sliver), a scruff on front bumper and a few defects on the alloy wheels to get her back to formar glory. She also needs a dam good clean outside and I think I will invest £50 in some black mats as the grey original ones are like new.

I would be pleased to hear any tips you may have (No horror stories pls I sleep well at night currently!)

Jason

Welcome to the web site. Don't worry you can figure out how to do just about anything on this web site. Just ask your questions in the particular forum for your car. There is a lot of knowledge on this site.
