Driving in Snow

I posted something about this in the CLK forum because thats what I drive, but got only one repsonse, so I figured here might be a better place....anyways, I am HORRIBLE at driving in snow and my car only makes matters worse, so, anyone have any good tips or anything to help me out? Not only do I get very nervous but my car skids like crazy and my breaks seems to just disapear when I get on snow. Its very nerve wracking and right now the only think I can think of is looking into getting some snow tires. Any other ideas? Also, any tips on how I should drive on the snow? Thanks!

Put snow tires on all 4 wheels and slow down.

+1 on snow tires. They make a noticable difference, even over all season tires.
+1 on slowing down

When you brake, imagine there is an egg under your foot. If you stomp too hard, the egg will brake and you'll slide. Easy, progressive pressure.

Rolling tires don't slide unless you turn too fast for the level of traction, accelerate too hard or brake too hard.

If you slide, fight your instinct to brake. You're much better off letting off the gas and steering the car. All hard braking does is cause you to have less control over the car. ABS just isn't great on snow & ice. In fact, some hate it in these conditions.

Yea snow tires make the difference, and you don't wanna be going fast in snowy conditions. My CLK isn't great in the snow partly because I have summer tires (little did I know or notice). It made it up a medium sized hill, but I had to be light on the gas (obviously). But I think if the car had snow tires the car would be able to make it up without a problem. I've seen my neighbors 4Runner with all seasons not being able to climb the incline, while the RWD BMW 3 series behind it make it up with no problems. Although the car fishtailed a few times, its pretty easy to get the car back under control (like BBZLC said don't stomp on the brake, let off the gas).

my 2 cents

Got benz?
