Post 99 CLK 430 fuel issues

I am the proud new owner of my first Mercedes. I have a 1999 CLK 430 coupe that I am in absolute love with but it has a fer little problems I am trying to get fixed. JI hope someone can help with this one...

I fill her up with 91 octane, drive her 265 miles, then fill her up again but she will only take 8 gallons. How could I have driven 265 miles on only 8 gallons? The fuel guage showed 1/4 tank left after driving the 265 miles so that is when I filled her up. But again, she would only take 8 gallons. After adding the 8 gallons, the fuelk guage now indicates 1/2 tank. Whats up??

Thanks for all help.

Fill up at a different pump at a different gas station in a different city.

Sounds like your fuel level sending unit is bad. Getting over 33 mpg is unusual but not impossible especially if those are highway miles driving about 70 mph.

With all due respect to mbvis, you are apparently buying good fuel but I guess the pump could be out of calibration.

Post Thanks

Thanks Musikmann. I was told today that my CLK430 has a "saddle tank". How does the fuel get from one side of the tank to the other? Is it gravity fed, pumped...?
