Post can door locks be repaired?

1983, 300D front door will not lock flush to body. Will lock on first "click" of lock, but door will not lock all the way flush with the body. Can the locks be repaired? Anybody know where? Otherwise, does anyone know where to search for used door locks? New ones are $550 plus. Thanks

Try your local locksmith. I had a problem with a VW and the LS made a new barrel so I would not have to re barrel the entire car with an associated new key..

Originally I thought you were talking about the key operated lock but it sounds like you are referring to the door latch. If you are saying the door latch does not properly hold the door flush against the body then you just might have an adjustment to make on the door stop on the "C" pillar. These are "life of the car" items so if you really think you need to replace the inner door latch or the stop on the pillar, go to a junkyard and get them off one of the cars there. If you actually need the lock cylinder, you should be able to get one from the Mercedes dealer that is keyed to your car. Do you use one key for the doors, trunk and ignition on your car? They should all be the same. Mercedes will use the VIN to identify the proper lock for your car (unless someone changed the lock at some point in the life of the car)

Yep, sounds more like the latch. Should be an easy adjustment.

I did play with door adjustment on W123 and it wasn't that easy. You have a stud on pillar that lock by turning and no reference points per my memory.
Lot of trybyerror but eventually you will get a hold of it. Mark the pillar with reference tape to start.
They closed "the biggest junkyard in the World" in Bay Area, but couple years ago they had tons of W123 on it, so finding parts shouldn't be big problem as well.

It wasn't the door lock mechanism but the striker plate

My front door on my W123 would not lock flush with the body. Thought it was the locking mechanism in the door BUT turned out to be the striker plate or also called the door lock striker. The plastic pieces attached to the striker eventually break off, which doesn't allow the lock to hold the door shut.
So, it was a much cheaper fix. Thanks for everyones suggestions.
