New '86 560SEL owner
Hi everyone. My name's David, and this is my second W126 car, first was an '81 300SD. So, this one's a tad more complex but not much more. My German vehicle fascination has taken me through 6 BMW motorcycles and 2 Porsche 911s as well over the decades.
My car has sat for about 5 years outdoors; there has been some water ingress in the right rear footwell which I presume is sunroof drain tube related. Any help in getting those cleared up?
Several minor switches are not working; driver's side window and outside mirror, right rear seat recline switch. Any suggestions on reputable companies to obtain new ones? While we're at it, any good replacement burled walnut switch panels for center console, and how to go about replacing that rear door-mounted seat switch?
Rear "load leveling" shocks are shot; any downside to removing the system and converting to standard Bilsteins...? My understanding is that replacing vacuum reservoirs and those shocks can be $$$.
Other than that, it's actually in pretty good shape with only 128K miles. Obviously she's going to get all new fluids and filters, bulbs, cam chain tensioner ramps, ABS sensors....
Looking forward to a long ownership of this car and appreciate you folks pointing me in the right direction.
