W211 Bluetech Air Filter/Recalibration?
2007 E320 bluetec - in for service today. The last time I had it in, they stated I needed the air filters changed. I had just changed them about 6 months prior, so I told them to leave them as is. Just came up to my 45,000 mile service (Schedule D), which indicates air filter change, transmission service, etc., so I dropped the car off. While going through the work that needed to be done (and something sounds fishy about this) they want $250 to change the air filters, because they have to 'recalibrate' the air inteake system.
Anyone know anything about this? In this day and age, the on-board diagnostics, etc. on most vehicles accommodate any changes related to air flow, fuel octane ratings, etc. (within reason). The other thing that raised my suspicion was that the prior visit, the air filter change was only $130 +/-.
I've never had a reason to not trust the dealership; the car is under extended 100K warranty; it will continue to be serviced there until the warranty expires. But there's another dealership across town if they are trying to pull something over on me.
Anyone have any feedback on this? Or is my B/S detector working correctly?
