Problem from a new member

Hello everybody.

This forum site, as it is very interesting reading, so I have just joined up.

I might have researched the answer to my problem from this site, but I'll throw it out there for some suggestions anyway.

I have a 1997 C280 and have been having some problems with the engine dying whilst at traffic lights or level crossings. It has done the exact same thing twice and in the exact same location (a bit bizarre!).

Both times it has been after driving for 20 minutes or so, in warm to hot weather. The temperature of the car probably gets just a little warmer than average. And, when I'm stopped at traffic lights, the idle just dies without warning. Usually I can start it straight up, but then it dies again and won't start unless it sits there for about 15-20 minutes. Then, it starts up like nothing is wrong.

My local mechanic took it to a euro specialist who put it on the diagnostic. But this showed no faults. So, he cleaned something to do with the fuel (I'm no mechanic, I didn't take much notice of what he said he did) but this didn't solve the problem.

Can anyone help a new forum member?

You just cant have a car that you have no confidence that it will get you to where you need to go..........

1. Replace fuel filter.
2. Replace air filter.
3. Fill up at a different gas station.
4. Add a bottle of fuel injector system cleaner (Gumout Regane or other brand).
5. Drive as usual, avoid that particular "a bit bizare!" location.
6. Next fill up, boldly stop then drive thru that "a bit bizare!" location.
