A problem is that the "depreciation" effect on value is only realized at sale, so unless you were actively selling the property at the time of the loss, measuring one's damages is going to be speculative at best.
Your best "protection" is to have repairs done by reputable shop and that only OEM replacement parts, not "OEM-like" or "OEM quality" or worse, "CAPA approved" replacements, be used. There's a reason why companies like DEPO and TYC flourish, they make cheaper replacement parts for the auto repair industry.
