Post New 608d van owner

Hello benz world members. I thought a unimog would be my first benz, however, I found a killer van on ebay! 1980 608d van. It was an Austrian firetruck in its former life. 32k mi. Barley broken in. I plan on using it as a work van for my construction business. The only bummer is that it is not 4wd. Upon doing some research, I found a few company's that converted them to 4wd using gwagon parts. I plan on doing the same thing myself. Does anyone have any info on the 608d? Or Iglhaut Allrad? I need to find out parts numbers for the conversion. Thanks!

Just wondering if you made progress w/ the 4wd.
That would be a great set up.
I also have a 1980 608D, ex fire truck from Germany. And it's my work truck for my building contractor biz.

Post 608d

Darn! You mean there is another 608 in california! Mine is also for my construction business. I have done a lot of research on the 4wd conversion. There are two companies that still do it today to spinters and the larger equivilent of our 608s. They are in austria and germany. They no longer have any parts or drawings of the older conversions
I did find out that they used a gwagon transfer case and front axel. If I did it, I would use a Dana80 axle and try to find a gwagon transfer. It would take a lot of fabrication. I figure it would cost about 20k. So for that price, I am going to wait and get a unimog. So about your van, do your rear roll up doors lock? I need to add locks and could use some ideas. Nice van! Cheers! Jamie Bucklin, From the Ground Up Construction.
