...greetings all, R.P. here. i hope to learn a lot here and maybe even make new friends with like interests. you might notice i start every thing with a ... thats a tribute to the sf chronicle writer herb cane that kept me from going crazy in commute traffic, i was able to read my way thru it. rip herb.
oh, and i dont capitalise very often but i clean up real good and use spell check because without it, yud juss laff at me.
i bought a 1976 240d with 153k original mileage. i have the maintenance manual with mileage up to 1985. with that i calculated how many miles a year the driver drove the car then worked that figure from 1976 to present and i was within 5,000 miles of spot on via the original calculation.
right now im putting a clutch in her after refusing to allow the propeller shaft to intimidate me. i have yet to remove the tranny and the bell housing, i want to re organise my tools from the chapter one carnage first. i was able to find factory service manuals today for my little beauty (i talk to her) at books4cars.com a local seattle book store dedicated to, well, books on cars. i was excited to get them.
there is floor pan rust issues which gave me a fine excuse to go out and get a new flux wire feed welder and i plan to be about 1500 into the car when im done. i bought it for 500, new generation clutch kit arrived today (175.00) the manuals, 75.00 and the balance will be junk yarding it for upgrades as money allows.
anyway, thats a little bit about me other than to say im very happy to have joined the group. the last diesel i owned was (2 actually) a 1960, 190 db and a 1964 190dc. that was back in the early 70's, i was too young to be proficient as a wrencher and i had the worst luck finding a qualified diesel guy in the sierra nevadas.
ok, thats it for now.
