Post Leather or plastic?

In late summer, I am planning to order a 2012 C350s exactly as I want it; color, options, etc. Hopefully it will be the last car I ever buy. I want to get it perfect!

So I have decided on the configuration I want, but have one part I have not settled yet.

On the 2011 model leather seating is a $1,600 option. Just a tad steep i my opinion on a car that will cost upwards of $45k.

I'd like some feed back on the trade off. In particular, if you
1 Like your seats; leather of MB Tex
2 Do you wish you had the other?
3 Any problems with either?
4 Just an opinion one way or the other.

On my ML, I could only get the MB Tex. I wanted leather, but there was not the color and config I wanted that also had leather. I did not want to order a car and wait 3 months, so i have MB Tex. I am of the opinion that in the summer it is hotter than leather. It seems to keep sweat close to the body.
Also it does not have the same quality of appearance as leather, but I have never been able to compare the two materials in the same situation so I don't know if its just me or if there is in fact a discernible difference. None of the cars I have owned for the last 20 years had anything but leather except the ML.

Any feed back appreciated. Thanks

Order leather for driver's seat. The other seats, order MB Tex since they're rarely used. It's a waste of money to get leather for the seats that you don't use.

Here in the US that is not an option from the dealer. Its all or none, leather or MB Tex. The salesman tells me that most of their C and E class, MLs and the GLK are MB Tex.

Appearance is the key for me, especially if this is a car you're going to be keeping forever you might prefer the synthetic. Leather will wear over a relatively short period of time as compared to MB Tex, as you likely already know from your own ownership experience. I've seen it looking new in cars that are 20+ years old. I can't tell a difference between the two just by sitting in the car so I believe the true advantage of leather would be that of appearance and maybe prestige. Re-sell doesn't really factor because you can't predict what the buyer will want. I won't even look at a MB that has leather while others would never consider one without.

Leather looks good for 2-5 years, leatherette last for 10-20 but will show wear out on driver seat.
The fabric looks good for over 20 years. We ordered out ML320 with fabric. That might be a reason we had to wait full 12 months for it back in 1997
Yet the fabric still holds excellent and even our son taking the truck for field work can't wear it out.

I have had both: MB Tex in a 1978 300SD that looked and was very good after 32 years. Then 2 ML's with leather over 12 years and the leather was fine (combined miles of about 185,000). Now have MB Tex again in a 2008 M-Class by choice when we ordered the vehicle. I prefer MB Tex. Easier to maintain and very tough.

MB Tex is incredibly durable and the vast majority of modern automotive leathers are so over-processed that they might as well be vinyl anyway!

That's actually quite a true observation! You can't even use most traditional leather conditioners on most auto interiors these days because the leather is coated in a plasticized coating so in a way, it is like having leather under a thin layer of vinyl.

I estimate two and a half cows were saved for every MB that got MB Tex.
