My name is Pete, and I live in Minneapolis. My wife and I just purchased our first Mercedes last week and we love it so far. We are expecting a baby girl (first child) in about a week, so this was in preparation for that.
We are coming from a very Volkswagen heavy family. We had a 2001 Wolfsburg Edition Jetta, which we traded in. We still have our 2001 GTI, which is my toy and my wife still has her 98 Cabrio which is her summer toy. I have been active on other more brand specific forums for about 10 years. I am a DIY'er at heart, so I look forward to working on our new car a lot. In the past I have done nearly all the service needed including suspension, timing belts, brakes and other modifications.
Our new car is a 2008 Alpine White C300 4Matic.
At the risk of sounding like a total newbie, what resources does one have for technical writings and how-tos? I have a Bentley Service/Repair manual for my other cars, and love it, but cannot seem to find a same or similar product for the W204.
I am not afraid to dive into a project and get my hands dirty, but having these resources is good too - I am sure there are lots of tips and tricks when it comes to working on these cars. Are there any other DIY MB owners out there that can help a new fella out?
I am also interested in finding some good online (discount OEM?) venders for things like the iPod integration kits and what-not, but it seems like most of the sites are pretty generic. I have been pretty spoiled in the past with my VWs; there are tons of OEM and aftermarket vendors... I just don't seem to be finding really good ones for MB yet - and I cannot believe the dealership is my only choice. Please feel free to add any links or advise in this department.
Anyway, I will poke around and see if I find what I am looking for. And as I go, I will be sure to add my impressions and DIYs where I can. I look forward to many years as a Mercedes owner, and look forward to making new friends too.
