New 107 Owner - VERY HAPPY

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. I had to give up my '86 SL about 10 years ago when we started having children and my husband would not agree to putting in jump seats. He threatened to trade it for a utility van (he's not a car guy, can you tell)? I traded it for a Passat and always regretted it.

Someone ran a red light, totaling my most recent vehicle - a Dodge Ram pickup truck (great beach vehicle). I was sort of kidding when I said I wanted to replace it with an SL with jumpseats. We don't really have the cash for it right now but we got a little inheritance money so much to my surprise, my husband said "no problem" ~ "I know how much you liked that car". Major long term points for him ! It's amazing what 10 years can do to a guy, not to mention the fact that he's turning 50!

So she's a 1989 Black on Black gorgeous beauty. She was really clean in comparison to everything else I looked at in the price range I investigated. I had our mechanic check it out. He is familiar with this vintage of Mercedes and can do bumper to bumper restoration. It has already been converted to r134 AC, clean dash, clean upholstery, all original. Needs a tiny piece of burlwood where the vent lever is and the premium gas only sign is on the driver side, the chrome cover from the right side of the driver's seat and the windows on the soft top need to be cleaned (pretty sure I can get them clean). I restore antique sewing machines so some of the cosmetic things I can fix. I fixed the stuck seat today.

It has some deferred maintenance issues that I was expecting with the PPI so I can't wait to get it tweaked. I also want to get it polished - the paint is good but has some light swirling I'd like to work out. I still have my car cover from my '86 but I need to pick up a Euro (hopefully) jumpseat, a cupholder (spilled water today), a roof rack (for surf gear), a roof hoist and maybe an ipod with a cassette adapter (to keep the radio original). I'm going to make a cover for the hardtop with an extra car cover I have. PLEASE don't tell me about anymore of the toys!

I can post a review of my search if anyone is interested. I carfaxed/autochecked about 30 cars. I inquired of about 40+ cars from $3500 to $16K. I test drove about 9 in the S. Cal. area. I would have test drove more, but I needed a car and I really wanted the black on black this time and the chromed wheels saved me the money.

It's the best roadster for a mom who picks up kids from school (please don't chastise me) who has a husband going through a mid-life crisis. It looks so darn beguilingly cute, yet it totally oozes brawny muscle and peels rubber! Which reminds me I need to replace the tires .
