Greetings and a request for advice from a prospective W201 buyer in Australia

Hi guys,

Currently shopping around for a good 190E. I've never owned a Benz before, but I've always loved them, particularly the pre-1990 designs. Until my recent test-drives of 190s, my sole experience of driving a Benz was a brief but memorable drive of a 1976 350SE. (What a car!)

I've posted a query about the merits of a 1.8 vs 2.0 190E, so anyone with any thoughts on that topic please let me know!

My highly varied previous vehicle history:
* 1978 XC Ford Fairmont 4.1 (my first car, thus the one I will always remember most fondly, even though it was full of rust and had a leaf-sprung live rear axle!)
* 1996 Daihatsu Charade 993cc (three cylinders, 38kW, 800kg, 5 speed manual. Loads of fun, very zippy, tiny engine that loves to rev, total deathtrap if I ever crash in it though!)
* 1991 Alfa 164 Lusso 3.0 V6 (brilliant car, glorious straightline performance, loved it, but ultimately a bit too over-the-top for my modest needs)

Looking forward to soon adding a MB 190 to the list!
