Stop Black Brake Dust on wheels

I was fed up with cleaning wheels and followed advice on another forum
Fitted Akebono Brake Pads - first to front wheels as trial - spotless - you only get road dust - no brake dust at all. So then did rear wheels - same results - sparkling wheels forever. I have 2005 E270 CDi in Australia. I have no connection with Akebono or any distributor. They just work as promised and - I believe they have pads for all Mercs.

I did my front few months ago with the same results.
One of the members did the braking tests and reported Akebonos being less efficient than OEM pads, but difference was in the 3% range.
I don't push the car hard enough to ever notice the 3%, but some might want to know it.

Do remember my friend that brakes are a safety feature, not just for racing. That 3% may equate to 6ft or more in some cars at highway speeds, which could be the difference between a "whew" moment and a "$hit, I just crashed the car/hit the kid who ran into the street" event. I've had a few close calls where a couple of feet really made a difference on the outcome of the story.

Even with Akebonos braking efficiency in Mercedes is at least double what my Ford Supeduty pickup can get. And this is the Ford that is hauling 10,000 lb so when you step on your OEM Mercedes brakes, better look in rear view mirror for Ford.

I did that with my Jag

I did the same thing--I had my Jag dealer install Akebono ceramic pads on my 2003 Jag S-Type soon after I bought it and had the same excellent results. (I had to find the right Service Consultant. When earlier I asked another one about replacing the awful loud speakers with good ones, I was advised they would only install Jaguar parts.) I asked the M-B dealer if they would do that for my wife's leased Benz and the answer was no.

My Infiniti G37x came with ceramic pads and I have no brake dust.

Someone posted that MB now offers a harder pad that lessens the brake dust. Mine must be the older style because I get quite a bit (I have about 30,000 miles on all of them and were last replaced before I bought the car).

But as I have written before, if you wash your wheels fairly often and/or use a good wheel cleaning solution, the dust wipes off easily. I like how well the OEM brakes work and refuse to switch to the ceramics.
