I am buying M1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 at my local, smaller automotive chain for $6.99 what is the same price the other M1 cost.
When I tried to get to the plug on 320cdi what I was doing out of curiosity since I extract from the top for years, I found so many covers and sound absorbing mats around the bottom of the engine, that I gave up. Per most of experience top extraction on those engines is superior to bottom draining.
Why would anybody want to go to the bottom?
The earlier oil change? We don't have labs to do the testing, but per what drivebywire in W211 posted, the MB oil filters are so good, that they make oil cleaner than when it left refinery. Meaning if the oil is not chemically contaminated from long use, draining it and refilling with fresh "dirty" oil would actually harm the engine. Take it with since we are getting in rocket science "clean" issues.

Topside vacuum extraction is safer, too. No getting under the car.

Service A
Mercedes Benz Service A, Mercedes A Service
According to the manual, the first oil change is at 2K miles. The first 1K miles is to be nice and gentle to the car.

Two pitfalls in this: I) It reads "Next A service in 1,000 miles", but does not show how many miles the car has.
II) It refers to previous models of vehicles with FSS service schedule. The schedule for current cars is Assyst Plus.

A car would show appreciation for preventive maintenance by never leaving his owner stranded.

I don't see where it says to change the oil after 2000 miles.

One more proof, that reading manuals is not our strong point
Per my recollection, all car manufacturers dropped the early oil change requirement about 30 years ago. Give it another 20 and owners will catch up. Just like with "oil change 3000"

It's pretty hilarious that you believe something in your 1999 manual is relevant to a 2009 car.

To find relevance to 2009 cars, you may want to call the dealer to ask them yourself.
My previous post about the first oil change came from 2001 manual, not 1999. When I bought my 1999 E430 in 1999, the salesman specifically told me to bring the car in after 1000 miles for service, free of charge.
From 2008 maintenance manual, it looked like MB has not changed the maintenance practice.

Looks that one of us can't comprehend English. My 1998 and 1999 manuals did not required extra service before first regular at around 12,000 miles. In those years there was no Service A or B on FSS. Just service. End of the story.
Than the posted "First visit" for 2008 model says nothing about oil change.

Best way is to call the dealer to ask. I only wrote what I knew and have done.
