Meanwhile back on topic,
All following opinions are based on owning no Mercedes newer than the W108/W109 models. (1972 and older)
And being trained in the Tool & Die trade by a German man (now 87yrs old) and schooled in Detroit manufacturing. (Enough credential bs)
Mercedes engineers and technicians are the innovators.
Air suspension, mechanical fuel injection, electronic fuel injection, metallurgy, castings, precision machining, etc.
Also, business-wise, they do out-sourcing controlling suppliers quality. Mercedes does not build entirely under one roof.
It is simply the German passion for perfection in machinery. Their machine tools are great.
The Swiss are there too.
The entire thing is an awareness of enduring quality.
Marketing does not build cars. just sells.
Emotion yanks the wallets out.
But the best, may not sell on quality alone.
