Lip home mode reset

I have a 1997 e320 in limp home mode. I have purchased the conductor plate, connector, o-ring and filter and plan to do the repair this weekend. My question is where or how can I get a scanner that will reset the transmission codes. I live in Barkhamsted Conn. 06065. Can I lip it to Napa Auto Parts or do I have to trailer it to (god for bid) the dealer.

Thanks in advance.

I think you need access to a SDS (aka Star) diagnostic computer to re-set the transmission trouble codes. That doesn't necessitate a trip to a dealer, just to a nearby Indy with that equipment. NAPA isn't going to have one of those. Or maybe someone with a Carsoft or Snapon unit can do this for you.

HINT: You have a W210 and we have a dedicated forum. Just scroll down from here and look for us under the sedans section. There are a lot of stickys and threads pertaining to your situation.

Welcome to BW.

In my area indy wanted $120 just for reading the codes, so it isn't cheap.
Than AAMCO does codes reading for free, but when I called one in the county, they wanted to see the car for few days to diagnose the problem, so I concluded they don't know how to deal with the transmission.
Call around to find best price. Than even if you go to the dealer, they usually will wash your car, some offer free coffee and WI-FI in waiting room.
Limp mode is 2nd gear what will give about 40 mph.

$120 is pretty steep for only reading the codes. What kind of scanner does AAMCO use anyway? Since they are "transmission specialists", one would think they have everything they need for practically any car out there.
