Hello everyone!

I recently came across an estate sale with a 1989 420SEL. It did not have a title, as the owner had died and lost the paperwork, and does not run. The property owner, who was a friend of the car's owner contacted the family, and they want nothing to do with the car. He just wants it gone, so he said I can take it if I can tow it. It is being towed to my place tomorrow by a friend.

As far as conditions I could observe visually, the dark graphite-color paint and chrome are pristine with no rust. The interior is in similar shape. The black leather is a bit worn on the front armrest, but the seats are really nice, as is the wood on the dash. The car has 186,xxx miles, and even seems to have decent tires. The landlord said that the owner was in the process of changing the timing chain when he died, which is why it doesn't run. He did expressly tell me that the timing chain never broke or jumped.

I'm posting mainly because I am likely going to need help with this, and feel its a good thing to introduce myself first.

Thanks for reading
Joe

I got the car today, finally, for the $85 it cost to tow it to a place I could work on it. I got a look under the hood to see that all the spark plugs are out, but in a box in the trunk. The battery is fairly new, so it may be salvageable. Tomorrow, I will start by cleaning it in and out, and then hooking up a charger to the battery. Maybe this will be fun...
