help with diagnosing problem?

Hi All

Well I'm a brand new owner of a 1995 c class mercedes....which broke down : o(

Out of the dealers for 20 minutes and it broke down on me....hoping you can help me get an idea of the problem as the dealer has taken it back to fix but as there's no warranty with the car I'd like to know if he may be able to do a patch up job or how i'll know what the problem is and if he's fixed it heres what happened

came off a roundabout(car is an auto) after driving for maybe 20 mins and on the straight the car wouldnt accelerate...put foot down...nothing...eased foot off eased foot on and it accelerated a little but then slowed again...eventually rolled to a stop while trying to accelerate....the engine sounds fine when you turn key but the car just wouldnt move....then about 40mins later while waiting for the tow truck it started going the time it was back in the dealer he said it was running perfectly but he'd run a diagnostic and check it over....he said he thinks maybe dirty something or other or air getting in somewhere?

what do you think? there is evidence the car may have been sitting up as the hazards were on for about an hour waiting for tow and when tow came battery had died...

knowing minimal amounts about cars i'm hoping someone may even have an inkling of what problem may be and if it'll be fixed or patched up or how much it'll cost if it happens again...all a bit inexact info but as i say i have minimal knowledge : o(

thanks for listening and any advice would be really appreciated

20 minutes after you bought it? I'd find the previous owner to see if the problem was there when previously owned. If so, I'd be back at that dealer demanding my $$ back. No warranty does not necessarily mean no warranty. They need to stand behind what they sell.

Knowing your location would be helpful. Many states in the US have some protection on car sales. Somehow the way you write makes me think not US.

Sounds like water in the fuel tank perhaps from condensation if it were sitting for a long time.
