Another guy that concludes because he can't do something it's a "dumb design."
Mercedes and all German cars are designed for professional maintenance and there's likely ZERO consideration given to DIY, nor should there be. That likely went away when the Model T was superceded.
Left out at the factory, of course is the lubrication of the disc/hub mating surface that's called for in the maintenance documents. Be sure to do this and next time won't be so bad.
