After a decade of being without a Benz (1999 until 2009), I returned to my MBZ roots (having begun in 1973 with my 1st new Benz - 1973 280SE 4.5) by purchasing a W126, 1991 560SEL.
This is my first W126 and my 12th in a succession of various gas and diesel Mercedes models which I have owned. I've pretty much buried myself into the 560 and I'm not sorry. Eash item which gets sorted really gives me a sense of satisaction. Every week, I make a 270 mile interstate round-trip in it. Also, I have taken it from my home in central Ohio to Atlanta and back. Having picked it up from the original owner for $4K, I've invested another $10K since purchase (includes new tires and updated state-of-the-art radio). Current mileage is 173K. I have the service records from 1995 to now.
At present, I am getting ready to acquire my 2nd W140 (1st was a 1993 300SE purchased in 1996). This time I'm being drawn to a 1995 S600 coupe. They seem to be an incredible value now (even though I know to be prepared for the inevitable major repairs for a vehicle this old and with two six cyl engines under the hood). This particular 1995 S600 coupe has 72K miles. It's totally stock, no modifications. Now in the hands of the second owner who has a small collection of 5 MBZ's. Since he can't house any more, when he chooses to add one, another must go. The 600 coupe is on the way out of his garage.
This is my intro to BenzWorld. I'm a member of two different MBCA sections. Mostly, I would appreciate advice or comments about buying the 1995 W140 S600 coupe.
I should also point out that I use an independent MB technician who I've known since the late 1970's when he worked for the dealer.
The 600 belongs to one of his customers and my guy has maintained this coupe entirely since the current owner acquired it. This gives me a greater sense of confidence and a complete knowledge of the work which has been done for many years. Thanks!
