I'm a newcomer here, I've come here to learn from you. I'm from Hungary, in november 2009 I've bought a Mercedes W140 600 SE made in Oct. 1991, so a long time dream of mine had come true.
In 1995 when I was 18 years old, my friend's father bought a one and a half year old W140 3.5 TD (with only 10.000 miles and a smell of a new car in it) and we were totally impressed from how great it was, like a work of art. We were cruising with it whenever we were allowed to (and were watched by everybody), enjoying to see the Mercedes star from the back seat at a distance of more than 4 metres
, and travel with it like it was a quiet living room. And it was then that I fell in love with the W140, and I had decided that one day I would own one from it.
In the 15 years that have passed since then I had a different level of enthusiasm towards the W140, but I've never forgotten it, and I still think of it as the best and the most beautiful car of the world.
In 2007 I almost bought one 300 SE (3.2) but I didn't dare to buy it for a role of a single family car. In 2008 I bought a new, turbodiesel car, a caravan (another brand, not a Mercedes), that is ideal for us as the main car for everyday usage, and started to collect some money for a W140. There is another V12 W140 in our town, not far from where I live and I was always amazed by the sound of it whenever it was cruisin around in our town. The sound of it is incomparable to any other car's sound (it has the same Lorinser exhaust what mine has).
After spent 5 months of monitoring the internet used car sites every evening (it's hard to find a correct W140 here in Hungary), in November 2009 I found a 600 SE in a relatively good shape for a low price so I've bought it.
It has been under restoration since then, I've already spent more cash on it than I had thought I would
but it seems to be through half way, perhaps by next summer it can be finished (I'm not a mechanic, just bringing it to the service stations, after tomorrow I'm bringing it again, for a repair of the central lock and to change the sensor of the open state of the hood (it prevents the windscreen wiper from functioning that's why it has to be changed).
So that's my story, thanks for the attention, I'm glad to be here among you, and will upload some photos of the car soon.
