Your advice is welcome - 1991 SL 500
I've been passively searching for a clean 1994-1998 SL 500 as a weekend toy.
I chose these years due to price, and the Bose sound system which was standard as of 1994 - as well as the side impact airbags that were installed around '96.
A neighborhood friend wants to sell me his 1991 SL 500. This is many years older than I would have preferred but its a SUPER clean car with only 70000 lightly driven miles by his wife (a grandmother) who took it out only during summer weekends.
It looks and drives like it came off the showroom and I'm inclined to buy it except for a few items which I'd like to get an idea of what I'm in for money-wise.
Here's all it needs:
1. Center consule sliding wood cover is missing (this seems to be one of the first things to go on a 10 yr old + car)
2. The lever for sliding the armrest out is missing (he has the spring and pieces) - again this seems to be a common misising item as people struggle with the lever.
3. Driver side Sunvisor (1)
4. Antenna boot
That's it. While I'm at it I'd like to know if how much it would cost me to install a Bose or similar quality sound system as it only has the basic stereo (Clarion) with front speakers (not much better than a Ford sound system).
Is it possible to replace the center console with a more updated version? This one has slots for Casette tapes I will not be needing.
The rest is like brand new. Seats = new. Carpeting = new. New top (just replaced last week).
Any advice on how much and how easy it would be to get the few items listed?
