Dear friends,
hi. its my first time to communicate in the forum. i am facing some problems with my 450 SL '80 and i want you help. i am going to explain the problem as clear as i can because my mother language is not English.
First problem. When activating the cruise control at a certain speed the speed remains at the same level but at the same time i am feeling an acceleration and in seconds a deceleration and this is happening continusly (like pressing and leave continusly the accelerator) without the speed on the tachometer changing at all.
if you want to activate the cruse control at the speed of 75 or more, then you have the same feeling but eatch time the speed slowly drops to 65 and stay at that specific speed.can you help me to solve this problem? i dont know what to do.
Second problem.
is with idle. when i start the engine and the engine is cold the idle is about 120 rpm when the engine is warming up, the idle drops to 700rpm. that is normal i think. when the temperature reaches over the middle line between 80 and 120 oC then the engine stops. (does not idle any more). i have to turn the engine on again and again the engine stops. i have then to slow down stop and wait for the temperature to drop under the middle line between 80 - 120oc.
and then the idle slowly comes at the normal level of 700rpm. that is happening all the time i drive the car on the higways with high speed and high outside temperature.and i put the shift to N position i dont have any more idle. the engine starts immediately with no idle until the level of temperature reaches under the middle line of 80 - 120oC on the gauge.

One thing I think I've noticed with the older cars is that if the speedo cable is causing erratic speedometer display, the cruise control will follow right along.
