Post New and in need of help with Hi-Fi retro fit

Hi Guy's, new here and in need of help with after market Hi-Fi. I own a 03 SL 500 with Command 2 and wish to upgrade to a Pioneer AVIC system mainly for the ipod and blue-tooth although the navi would be more then welcome. Trouble is, all the problems that are associated with the install. Has any one undertaken such a task and how did they get over any problems??

Regards
Lee

We have done several. However, we generally do not recommend it (only for those that wish the fairly high cost) your entire car is fiber optic based, and even the speakers are 1ohm, so virtually everything must be replaced.
You can get Bluetooth and iPod added to your system much cheaper. Although that won't change the nav (but you could get new CD's)

I have been told it can be done by a company in the UK at a cost of $3180 in your money. Does that sound about right?

Thanks

Sounds close. It is normally about $5000 using good quality amp and speakers. Make sure they know the current speakers will eventually destroy the typical amp.

Now this is where it gets interesting, they say the are going to use my amp and speakers. Correct me if i'm wrong here but I thought command 2 had the amp built into the heat unit....
I thought Bose had the separate amp and sub. Don't get me wrong, I have had top end high fi in every thing I have ever owned and the system in the Merc is very good and goes loud compared with my 330ci rag top which is appalling. My wife drives a Lexus 450h with the Mark Levinson kit and that sounds the muts nuts. Why does everything that Merc make have to be so over complicated!!

Not in an 03 in the states. I just noticed you are in the UK, so things could be a bit different. It is pretty easy to check to see if you have a fiber amp or not. I would simply ask for a reference for the same car. I have a LOT of crazy shops call me and ask for parts that will never work, because they have no idea what they are talking about.
