New wheels alloy or steel for 1980 450SL
This is a fine car I have owned since 1997. Just noticed I have a mismatched set of 5 finned stock rims. 2 rims appear to be aluminum alloy, 3 rims appear chrome plate steel alloy.
Odd thing is there is no magnetic property on the aluminum rims, and almost none on the chrome plated steel look. I'd like to get a set of five of the rims that match that are low maintenance. Brake dust aside on the aluminum, and since I leave near the beach I'd like to rule out chromed rims. Any input or llinks for this. I suspect I could get 4 Aluminum rims for $ 200 US at a local dismantler.
I do start up DR PANZR and make sure to run the air and heater.
After this minor project I am in for a complete paint finish strip and paint. While the current color is a metallic blue/green I'm interested in finding out if the original color was silver. Thanks for reading!
