Next Question...

The current owner says he runs Mobil 1, and I notice in reading the posts here that everyone here specifies Mobil 1 Euro spec. I have never heard of Euro spec, is it different from Mobil 1? Whats the difference? Before I buy the car, I need to know if I can get this product here (Northern Canada).

They call M1 OW-40 European formula.
Don't ask me why
I run it in my Ford Supeduty as well.'
Now Mobil 1 become used in Mercedes about 7 years ago, while the car is 24 years old.
Does the seller claim he always run M1 ?

Well, he did not say he always used it, I merely asked what kind of oil he used. I will be talking to him this week, mainly to find out if he has all the maintenance records. He did say he owned it for 8 years.

Be careful with Mobil 1 in the US (NA). I've seen oil tests that advertise how much better some other brand is over Mobil1 but when you go and look at the details, they are referring to "dino oil Mobil1", not the one that fulfils MB requirements (like 229.5 or 229.51 today). The first thing when selecting oil for an MB is to make sure the MB grade is the same or higher than the one mentioned in the service sheet (or manual).

The viscosity figures are not sufficient alone and not even a simple brand name.

Judging oils is pretty tricky business.
There is whole line of oils that will beat Mobil1 in extreme load tests.
Point is that we are not hauling 10 tons with our Mercedes and such extreme have absolutely no value in long term use.
Some say Mobil 1 "donated" Mercedes and that is why it is having MB specifications, while other excellent oils like Amsoil don't. But I am not spending another 2 seconds worrying about it.
