The Gutless Wonder! 1984 190D
I just picked up a 1984 190D with 279K miles.
It will be my commute car (~90miles/day).
It's an old NY car with some rust, but not too bad as far as I can
tell at this point. Time to cut out the old repairs and see the truth!
The diesel idle's rough, and it's very loud, so since this motor was designed to be quiet, I think I'll look into that. This is my first Diesel, and I intend to run BioDiesel in it. I know to grab a few fuel-filters before doing that though!
Other plans are:
1) new struts/shocks
2) Fix cruise control
3) Fix Drivers Window
4) Fix Rear Passenger Window
5) full exterior paint in the original Champagne color (carmel is a more accurate color description).
I'm looking for body mods that are subtle... I think I'll remove the
190D and 2.2 emblems from the rear. And I'll take the badge off the grill but leave the hood-ornament.
I've already picked up a pair of tail-light lenses from e-bay for $39 (29+shipping an tax).
Off to a good start... (360 miles on my first tank so far and I'm not yet to the 1/4 tank mark on the fuel gauge... that makes me happy).
