Post 2006 CSL55 got stolen (how??)

My 2006 mercedes cls55 got stolen last night from a movie theater.. I have the key in my pocket. How did they take it? I thought mercedes has a really high tech type of key etc..

They still didn't find my car yet!

It surprises me that it is even possible!

How long have you had the car and are you sure you have the only key that is coded to that car?

MB has a sophisticated lock system, do you have both of your keys, valet people sometimes go thru the glove box, and take the extra key. Theives could have hauled it off on a flat bed. Mercedes can also verify if extra keys were ever made for the car.

It is possible to steal just about any car. Your car would be a bit more time consuming, then say an Escalade, but it can be done. You can flat bed tow any car. That is most likely how it was done. Nobody wants to to waste time and risk getting caught trying to hot-wire it, so they will just tow it away and then hot wire it in their own garage.

People are less likely to report a car being towed than someonr trying to "slim jim" it. Who would report a tow truck, it worth more parted out than on the lot.

What type of anti-theft alarm is fitted? MB include an anti-tow away alarm on many recent models. Mine is 2004 and has it.

This is triggered if the car is tilted when locked, as would be needed to tow.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I hope your insurance would cover the loss.

But I am also very interested in finding out how your particular car got stolen from a movie theater parking (with security cameras and all). I was actually thinking recently how these hightech cars can be stolen? These cars' anti-theft alarms usually kick in when trying to tow the car and trying to tow a car without it being in neutral with alarms going off, would attract attention at a movie theater parking. Also trying to hot wire such a car without having the program key would still result in triggering the anti-theft alarm.

On the other thought, lets suppose if someone happened to a have programmed key for your car, that particularly person should be planning to steal it for a little while and likely knows where your car was at that time and also knows someone (or work) at MB dealership. So has your car been at dealership a lot recently, or do you know someone personally at dealership? And have you considered how many people knew that you were going for a movie?

To me it is very unlikely that some random thief stumbles upon CLS55 at a parking lot and tow it off without a hitch or boost it with some sophisticated gadget while there are so many other easier to steal cars on the lot.

I am just intrigued about it. If you ever find out how did they do it, please report back or PM.

Didn't see that Canadian member for long time, but he got his E320cdi stolen in just few months of the ownership. That was the first year the keyless go come on the market and he had one. Also he had LowJack (?) -theft tracking device that was disabled 2 hr after the theft.
The flatbed theory was the first one, since the car was stolen at shopping mall, but his papers and cellphone were left on the asphalt.
The only possible explanation was the inside job.
Hope OP has good insurance on the car?
Even if the Police will find it, I am not sure I would like it back.

either it was a inside (dealer/service person) job or it was towed. Make sure the police check the security cameras. It will probably get shipped out of the counrty or be parted into another CL55 with a clean vin#... sorry, that stinks.
