1989 560SL with a problem . . .
Just got my dream car a 560SL - RED (the fastest color-BTW)
It has 155,000 miles and was impeccable maintainence history.
Looks like a show car . . .
anyway, i have started to drive it almost daily and it is running very well.
I put some injector cleaner in the tank and the next day one of the fuel pumps started to leak so i ordered a new one and an air filter and fuel filter.
(haven't installed them yet)
On my way home today i was running the car up a long uphill grade
at about 50-60 mph. When i got to the top of the hill the car started to make a high pitched whine and it seemed to be coming from the back of the engine or the transmission. The car is running and shifting great but now makes this loud whine.
Does anyone have any ideas???
The first thing i tried is removing the drive belt from the alternator to see if those bearing were making noise but they were ok.
Any help would be appreciated.
