General Question about MB Dealers

I'm the happy owner of a new 2011 CLS 550. I bought it from a very large dealership in Orange County, CA. I was surprised at the lack of depth when a "product specialist" gave me a high level overview. But maybe my expectations were unrealistic and I'm curious about what kind of experiences other people had at the dealerships they dealt with.

My salesman didn't do a very good job of walking me through the features either. But I paid a fraction of what you did for your MB. In your shoes, I would expect the red carpet treatment.

Would it have made a difference if they'd told you your car is based on the previous generation E-class and the next-generation CLS will be out next year with a new motor?

Funny thing about that. It was never mentioned. I didn't think to research it because I was looking at 08s. Hmmmm

It has to be personal thing and policy could be changed. Last new car I picked up from dealership was ML320 in 1998. The senior salesman took almost 2 hr to present the car to us (after 1 years wait for delivery). It was technological marvel at the time with electronic traction control and ESP that nobody did hear about yet. I remember that the presentation was MB policy at the time, but the salesman sure made it personal and good one.

When I picked up the W204, the salesman said: "You know it better than I do, so ask what you wish and I'll get you the answer". To top it off, the personnel was on strike while the Union was negotiating with the Company, so the dealership management was doing everything. I got what I needed, hopped in the car and run away from that hornets' nest. Afterward they did not like that in the survey I told MB what I thought about the organization.

So, times have changed and service is a word used to put up a face. Everywhere is the same crap. But, if your car is not the exceptional lemon, you have a hell of a machine in you hands.

A car would show appreciation for preventive maintenance by never leaving his owner stranded.

Defensive Driving is never having to say you're sorry: a true love story between man and machine.

If you are still within a return period, I'd get rid of the car now. The all-new CLS will be out before you know it and your car with be worth penny's on the dollar. The new CLS is also a MUCH better car, than the old.

You already know that the 2012 will be that much better than the 2011?

It should be much like the old and new E class, which the CLS is based on. Night and day difference. Everything from the design, to the build quality, has improved greatly. The reliability should also improve. There is no question your car will depreciate like a rock falling off a cliff as soon as the new body hits the streets. They always do.

understand that the salesman are required to take training on all the new cars and there features, but overall the car comes with an owners manual so dont expect the salesman to know the answers to every question you have. i have been a benz tech for along time now and even when a new car comes in, sometimes i have to read up on how something works before i can fix it. these cars are too complex for the salemsna to know the answers to all questions. but also they want to sell the car.
