Hello from Queensland Australia (Noosa)

Hi all

Tom's the name and loving my Benz is my game (apologies to my darling wife - she knows I will pay her some attention soon - just joking - it's a standing joke between is).

OK so after tyre kicking BMWs and BENZs for the last 10 years or so (twas 10 years ago when I first started to appreciated the build quality) our business finally had enough money for our first German car.

It's a 2008 E300 Sports Edition with 18,000 KMs which cost $79,000 on the road (Aust. $s of course but then our dollar is worth 90US cents). You yanks have probably heard this many times but boy do you get your cars cheap! Spoilt?

Actually it's an E280 in Oz but I believe it's the same as an E300 in the US (engine is 3 litre)

The Sports Edition ($11,000 worth of extras) was added for free to a standard E300 in 2008 to boost sales during the run out phase. The extras were Sat. Nav, 18" wheels, Continental sports tyres, lowered sports suspension, gear paddles on the steering wheel, sports/comfort/manual gear change switch and a few other bits n pieces I can't think of.

Anyway I absolutely LOVE it. While 170KW is not much these days it's plenty for me as the 7 speed gear box selects just the right gear for oomph.

Steering is stunning. Precise. Road bumps almost non-existant even with low profile sports tyres. Build quality to die for. Love the way it looks also. My darling wife agrees with all of the above.

Anyway it's 5PM and I'm off to have a quiet moment with my new love.

Cheers all

PS Call me biased but I'm not too thrilled by the new E Class design. They went overboard with all the angles. And those LED lights in the front! with the 'hook'. It looks like an afterthought unlike say some Audi LEDs. Oh dear. Yes sure I admit I cannot afford the equivalently specified W212 to what I have but I assure you it's not the reason I dislike the look.

Just a greeting like "welcome" would suffice.

Howdy partner...

screeeeech....I have just arrived at my own post after welcoming 1000s of other newby posts...er 100s...er 10s. Oh I see. This post is up top and you haven't seen the other replies yet. Please persevere. They are gems (ish).

Anyway 'birdy num nums to you'. (Peter Sellers in The Party - but I'm sure all Benz owners know that)

I'm a new member (2 days) and it seems the old members can't be bothered to welcome the newbies. They seem to have no social graces about them at all. (Your post would probably have disappeared into the ether. Just look at all the posts with ZERO replies.)

So anyway WELCOME and I LOVE my new Benz also.

WOW! what a nice chap ThomasAJ is.
