Exclamation ASR problems...

Hi everyone, I have a 1994 E320 which the ASR light has come on and along with it I have my stereo that blinks on and off when the car is running, I also hear a slight clicking noise inside the car and that's when the headlights dim. When I shut the car off the radio plays fine. When I first start the car everything is okay for a bout 5 seconds then the ASR light comes on and everything starts happening. Could anybody help me with this?

John

Hey John have you checked your battery yet to see if it is any good? You need a good strong 12 volts to power a lot of the functions in the car and when it doesnt get it the lights will come on showing an error. For mine it would be ABS light, SRS light, headlights dimming, etc which is a sign that the battery was starting to go or the alternator.

There is one rule...there are no rules!

Thanks, the battery is in excellent condition and the alternator is charging fine. I also notice that my ABS light flickers when driving and there is a lost of acceleration too. But why does the radio not work while it is in this condition?

Forums such as this are pretty much burned out on ASR problems. There's been about two million threads on the subject, which makes for good search material. Reading the fault codes or having them read would be a good next step.

Good News! I have solved my ASR problem, it was the alternator causing the trouble. The alternator was charging too much voltage in the system (19 volts) making the computer go wacky and cutting out the radio at the same time, also giving me all kinds of fault codes. I hope this will help someone else who's having similar problems.

John

P. S. I'm GOOD!!!!

There is never enough info or burn out on the subject of ASR or any type of problem people may have with their car because there are always different causes to a particular problem......

Have a great day!
