Have a look at the W211 section for the AUX battery if you are after that one.

One is in the trunk one in the engine department.
You will probably not be able to get the battery except at the dealer, also the car has to be on the computer to reset everything

I would not say that. At the W211 forum members have referred to several other sources for the AUX battery. Also changing the AUX battery would not cause any settings lost, unlike the main battery. Even if certain settings get lost when the main battery is removed, no need for computers to bring the car back in order.

Yes, R230 and a few others have a big, starter battery at the front (the CLS starts with the rear battery as well as the W211).

I'd like to learn more about the "1 hour computer work to reset everything"? MB must be busy doing that for all cars that have had a flat battery? Are you sure the didn't reprogram some control units at the same time as taking care of the new battery?

I think that 1 hr is nonsense...

Looked up the W219 in the WIS. Two batteries - one in the engine bay (G1) as you stated.. The other (auxilliary battery) in the trunk. (G1/7)

After disconnection of auxilliary battery the only 'resetting' listed is:

a) set time at cluster (unless COMAND fitted)
b) re-synch power windows.
c) normalize sliding roof (if fitted)

When removing either battery, the earth connection of both must be disconnected.

I have replaced the AUX battery in my CLS500 with a no name $50 AGM battery without much problem. Look at the following thread in W211 section for detailed information, pics and pdf files.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...x-battery.html

I think konigstiger has also given 'resetting' instructions. Just remember to disconnect the main battery before attempting replacing AUX battery.

oops just noticed, this is an old old thread.
