Smartkey Trouble??

Just recently, I've started having trouble locking/unlocking my doors. I thought the batteries were dying in both of my smartkeys so I changed them and still have the problem. I have to be right next to the driver side door to lock or unlock the car and at times it doesnt work at all and I have to use the manual key and that sets off the alarm.
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a fix for it?

Smart Keys use both a infra red, and RF signal, it seems your RF reciever might be bad. I think it is located in the passenger headliner. The infra red should work if you aim at the sensor on the drivers side handle and trunk lid. I cant provide more than that

Agreeing with Peter since it's quite unlikely both your keys went bad at the same time.

Agreed, sounds like an antenna issue. On the W203 the remote control antenna is actually at the rear window, part of the wring and common with one of the FM antenna. Your FM radio might also be affected (but not necessarily completely bad).

It often starts gaining contact if you push the headliner up at the antenna amplifier position.
